“Because of Innovate Africa Foundation, I found my voice in product.”

The story

Finding her voice in product

The journey of building digital products is often framed in metrics, adoption rates, and sprint cycles. But behind every successful feature rollout or scalable platform is also a human journey, and for Oluwaseun Majolagbe, hers was driven by a fundamental curiosity about people.

“My career has always been centered around one thing: understanding people and solving problems.”

That innate drive had already carried her across a winding professional path, transitioning from marketing to customer success, and eventually finding her way into product management. It was a space where she finally knew she could turn raw customer insights into tangible solutions. However, like many professionals navigating the tech ecosystem, Oluwaseun hit an invisible ceiling. She found herself grappling with a common industry blur: the fuzzy line between true, strategic product management and simply managing projects. She knew there had to be more. Coupled with this, she often felt invisible in rooms that mattered, but she didn’t have the expertise needed to command a seat at the table.

This search for more led her to the Product Leadership Accelerator (PLA), an initiative of the Innovate Africa Foundation. For Oluwaseun, the 12-week programme became more than another learning opportunity. It was an environment where the curriculum, the people, and the experience came together to challenge how she thought about product and, ultimately, how she saw herself within the profession.

“What helped me the most was the combination of the curriculum, the people, and the environment.”

The more she learned, the clearer the distinction became. Product management was not simply about tracking projects to completion. It was about understanding problems deeply, making thoughtful decisions, and creating products that deliver meaningful value for the people who use them. But the biggest shift was not just technical. It was in her confidence. Through the programme, Oluwaseun became more assured in her thinking and more intentional about how she approached product. She became more willing to contribute her perspective, speak up in important conversations, and take up space.

That internal revolution quickly spilled over into her professional reality.

“I earned a promotion from Associate Product Manager to Senior Associate Product Manager.”

This was a tangible reflection of the growth that had taken place. Yet perhaps the most telling part of Seun’s journey is where she is today. Her relationship with the Product Leadership Accelerator has come full circle in a way that speaks volumes about sustainable ecosystem building. She didn’t just graduate from the program; she returned to help shape it, currently serving as a Programs Specialist with the PLA team, guiding the next generation through the exact same transformation she once sought.

Reflecting on the broader picture, Oluwaseun believes deeply in the catalytic role organizations like the Innovate Africa Foundation play across the continent.

“Sometimes, people just need someone to invest in their potential. Innovate Africa Foundation creates that kind of opportunity for young Africans, giving people the tools and support to grow into bigger roles and contribute meaningfully to their communities.”

And perhaps that is what makes her story particularly inspiring. The opportunity she received has changed not only where she is, but how she sees what is possible for others.
